LPCANC is pleased to accept applications for its
Scholarship Awards. The Scholarship Award is named
in honor of Nancy Howell, a board member of LPCANC
who died in a car accident in 2004.
The Nancy Howell Scholarship Award is designed to
acknowledge graduate students who demonstrate leadership
potential as counseling students and as a future LPCs.
Supported by student registration fees from the Annual
Conference, this Scholarship provides student members
a monetary award for student involvement in counseling.
In addition to the monetary award, the recipients
are provided the opportunity to volunteer working
with the LPCANC Board and membership to foster professional
relationships and inform students on the needs and
concerns of the Counseling Profession.
Purpose:
This program is designed to:
provide a one-time monetary acknowledgment for
demonstrated involvement in the counseling field
towards his or her becoming a LPC
recognize and encourage excellence in future
LPCs
provide opportunities for leadership among counseling
students
provide an opportunity for the scholarship recipient
to assist students in increasing awareness of board
activities and the current issues faced by LPCs
in North Carolina
introduce counselors-in-training to leaders and
future colleagues in the counseling profession
The goal of the Scholarship Award is to acknowledge
and reward active student involvement towards becoming
a LPC and provide the student with leadership opportunities
in their chosen profession.
Scope:
The award is granted to one counseling student currently
enrolled in a graduate program in Counseling and who
is an active student member of LPCANC. The LPCANC
Board will award one (1) Scholarship per year.
Board Members and previous recipients are ineligible
for the award.
Award:
One payment of $500.00
Attendance-fee to the 2010 Annual Conference
in October is waived
Recognition at the LPCANC Annual Conference Awards
Ceremony
Three letters of recommendation, preferably from
professors, advisors, supervisors, or other professional
counselors with direct knowledge of characteristics
and activities of the applicant’s training
program
**Note: All letters of recommendation
should be scanned and sent electronically. No
emails without hand-written signatures can be
accepted.
Selection: The award is granted by a Special
Committee of LPCANC Board Members:
Awards Committee Chairperson (or designee)
University Relations Committee Chairperson (or
designee)
Graduate Student Representative
President
President-elect
Recipients will be selected on the following criteria:
Excellence of written recommendations
Enthusiasm for the scholarship award, as evidenced
by goals, interests, and commitment to LPCANC and
the counseling profession
History of involvement with LPCANC and other
counseling organizations
Demonstrated leadership
Opportunity Commencement:
Attendance fee to the 2010 Annual Conference
is waived (All other costs remain the responsibility
of the scholarship recipient (e.g., hotel room,
meals, transportation, etc.)
Attend and participate in the Board meeting at
the Annual Conference

Feb 1: General announcement of the 2010 Scholarship
Mar 1: First follow-up notice of Scholarship
Apr 1: Second follow-up notice of Scholarship
May 1: Deadline for Application
All applications materials must be received
Committee begins review
May 15: Scholarship Recipients notified
