Professional Development Committee
Your opportunity to give and receive professional development through continuing education, networking, and community development

The LPCANC Executive Board established the professional development committee (PDC) to enhance the organizations involvement with LPCs throughout the state. The committees purpose is threefold:

  • To provide continuing education workshops and networking opportunities
  • To promote a sense of professional identity among LPCs and the community at large
  • To develop a sense of community among LPCs by encouraging and facilitating regional activities

The PDC is responsible for the organizational structure, the policies and procedures, the recruitment of regional committees and contact persons, and the facilitation of regional workshops.

Professional Development Through Regional Workshops. The PDC facilitates a variety of three-hour workshops throughout the eight LPCANC regions in North Carolina. These workshops offer continuing education credit to participants.

Developing a Sense of Community. The LPCANC Board wants to promote a sense of community and cooperation among LPCs in the state by developing professional ties within regions. The workshops provide an opportunity for LPCs to meet, share common interests and concerns and participate in the learning experience.

At the regional level, committees and contact persons are recruited to help provide professional development programs and networking opportunities. They also provide peer support, a forum for discussion of regional needs and concerns, and LPCANC information distribution.

The PDC Needs Your Help

LPCs are needed as presenters, regional contact persons, and regional committee members.
The Professional Development Committee needs your help in offering continuing education and networking opportunities. If we are going to promote a stronger sense of professional identity between LPCs and the community and if we are going to develop a stronger sense of community among LPCs by encouraging and facilitating regional activities, then we must have your time, your interest, your expertise, and your talent to make it happen. These goals cant be accomplished without you.

Volunteers for Regional Committees: Regional committee members are responsible for contacting LPCs within their region and for hosting informal gatherings where LPCs can meet and share. The PDC works with regional committees to plan and promote these networking activities.

Volunteers for Contact Persons: The PDC needs some contact persons within each region to help offer continuing education workshops. These individuals help with the planning and execution of workshops by 1) searching for and recommending suitable facilities 2) making arrangements for a continental breakfast service and 3) serving as the PDCs representative in their region. The contact person would also be a member of the regional committee.

Presenters: The PDC is interested in hearing from any LPC who would like to present on a specific topic at a regional workshop. If you have a topic which would serve to enhance the professional development of LPCs, please click here for a presenter application
