Engaging with Military Culture and Using Trauma-Informed Treatment, being presented by Vanessa M. Perry, MS, CRC and Samantha M. Coleman, MA, CSAC.

Counselors strive to understand military culture and provide treatment that is trauma-informed.  This session familiarizes learners with attributes of military culture, especially unique challenges faced by military families.  Deployment, an experience felt by many military families, will be explored in great detail.  Additionally, learners will learn about supports available to active duty and veterans. This insight will be coupled with knowledge of trauma-informed treatment, supporting the learner in providing treatment that is both multi-culturally competent and trauma-informed.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Comprehend attributes particular to military culture and unique challenges faced by military families, especially deployment.
  2. Explore supports available to active duty and veterans.
  3. Gain knowledge on how to utilize trauma-informed care in treating military families.
