Brain Based: Discover the Neurobiology of Trauma and Trauma Treatment

Abstract:  With continuing developments in our understanding of the brain and nervous system and their role in mental health and traumatic experiences, it is beneficial for clinicians to educate themselves, for the purpose of facilitating brain based interventions in addition to educating and empowering their clients.  After this presentation you will have a basic understanding of how trauma impacts the brain and the individual. You will also learn how current brain based interventions facilitate healing and improve quality of life.

Begin the afternoon with networking, from 130pm until 2pm, and then earn 2 Contact Hours while learning more about brain trauma and treatment.

Presenter Bio: Elizabeth (Libby) Marlatt-Murdoch is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate as well as a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate, dually licensed in Ohio and North Carolina. She has been practicing in the field of mental health and substance abuse since 2013, working in community mental health in the Wake County area for two years.  She attended undergraduate studies at the University of Cincinnati where she majored in Psychology, minored in Sociology, and obtained a Deaf Studies Certificate.  She received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Xavier University. Libby is certified in Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, and was also certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional by the International Association of Trauma Professionals. Since graduate school, Libby has focused on continuing her education in the field of trauma and neuroscience, recently completing a 28-week certification course on Traumatic Stress Studies with the Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute. Additionally, Libby has studied Relational Neuroscience and Relational Cultural Theory at Wellesley College and the College of St. Scholastica. She is currently in the process of obtaining certification as an EMDR practitioner. Libby is life-long learner and has a passion for making neuroscience accessible to clinicians in the field as well as their clients.
