Description: The purpose of this workshop is to guide health practitioners’ understanding of the relationship between stress and the body and to emphasize perspectives and techniques that practitioners can use with patients to manage the impact of stress on weight and the body. This workshop will define and explain stress in relation to body weight, the body’s experience of stress, and explore current and past discourse on stress. “The Body Speaks” will challenge myths and explore realities about the relationship of stress and weight. Counselors will learn mind and body techniques to manage stress.

About the Presenter: Dr. Kathleen Connolly is the owner of Acumeans Counseling and Consulting in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Connolly holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology, human services, counseling and counselor education. She has worked with a broad array of clients including adults, adolescents, children, and families. Dr. Connolly is a professional affiliate member of the graduate faculty of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor, an Approved Clinical Supervisor, and certified in clinical hypnosis.
