Description:
Cultural diversity in our society invites us to reflect
upon the role of culturally conditioned values held
by individuals within the context of a perceived universal
set of ethical imperatives. Mental health professionals
are challenged to keep their personal beliefs and
values to themselves, to respect the beliefs and values
of consumers, and to become catalytic agents of healing
for the individuals and families we serve in a therapist-consumer
relationship. This presentation will explore our personal
beliefs and values and their impact on our professional
lives, and will propose a threefold set of universal
ethical standards that, once adopted and practiced,
may uncap human potential to self-healing and restructuring
of society.
Directions:
From I-40 , whether approaching from the east or west
on I-40, take Exit 50-A which is Highway 25 South
(Hendersonville Road). Head south on Hendersonville
Rd. At the second stoplight, turn right on Vanderbilt
Park Drive. Stay on Vanderbilt Park Drive, which will
make a turn to the right behind the Asheville Cardiology
building. Proceed to the roundabout and go about halfway
around. You will see the Mission Reuter Children's
Outpatient Building and directional signs to the left
for parking.
