Description: Addressing substance use, abuse and dependency is a challenge for many therapists and organizations serving adolescents. The journey often begins with the question, “How involved is the child with substance use?” Professional evaluation is essential to determine the extent of their substance use, the type of treatment needed, and appropriate aftercare placement. A secondary diagnosis of mental illness or learning problems may need to be considered in placement for treatment of the dually diagnosed. Left untreated substance use may turn into abuse and later to dependency. Research indicates the importance of early intervention and involving the whole family in treatment. These issues will be explored through current research and evidenced based programs.

Directions: From I-40 , whether approaching from the east or west on I-40, take Exit 50-A which is Highway 25 South (Hendersonville Road). Head south on Hendersonville Rd. At the second stoplight, turn right on Vanderbilt Park Drive. Stay on Vanderbilt Park Drive, which will make a turn to the right behind the Asheville Cardiology building. Proceed to the roundabout and go about halfway around. You will see the Mission Reuter Children's Outpatient Building and directional signs to the left for parking.
