Motivational
Interviewing: Concepts, Principles, and Application
(8:30-12:30)
Presenter:
Todd F. Lewis, PhD, LPC
Description:
This preconference workshop will cover the key principles,
concepts, and underlying assumptions of motivational
interviewing. Participants will learn about the "spirit"
of MI practice, how to recognize change talk, and
how to counsel in a manner that minimizes resistance
and enhances intrinsic motivation to change. Participants
also will gain practice in generating change plans
as well as strategies to strengthen one's commitment
to change. Emphasis will be placed on understanding
MI principles and concepts as well as application.
This workshop is intended for those who have had limited
exposure to MI, or for those who would like to incorporate
more MI into their practice.
