Description: Many special issues arise in working with minors and adolescents that counselors must be ready and able to handle effectively. This workshop will address some key issues including: informed consent, confidentiality, effectively engaging teens in the counseling process, resistance busters, top three issues every counselor should address with teens, goal setting, individual versus family sessions, etc.

About the Presenter: Jackie Perry is a Licensed Professional Counselor who currently works in private practice at Cornerstone Counseling Center in Hickory, North Carolina. She has been working as a counselor since 1991 and limits her practice to working with adolescents and families dealing with a variety of issues. These issues include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, ADHD, oppositional or rebellious behaviors, mood disorders, and divorce. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Duke University and her Master’s degree from Georgia State University. Jackie is passionate about training new counselors to effectively respond to the needs of today’s teens. When she is not counseling, speaking or training, Jackie enjoys spending time with her husband John and their three children.

Directions: From I-40 , whether approaching from the east or west on I-40, take Exit 50-A which is Highway 25 South (Hendersonville Road). Head south on Hendersonville Rd. At the second stoplight, turn right on Vanderbilt Park Drive. Stay on Vanderbilt Park Drive, which will make a turn to the right behind the Asheville Cardiology building. Proceed to the roundabout and go about halfway around. You will see the Mission Reuter Children's Outpatient Building and directional signs to the left for parking.
