Abstract:

This seminar is about stress relief using humor. Attendees will learn techniques for using humor, gratitude, and positivity as stress relievers for themselves and with their clients. Using humor can move clients from being stuck, and it can help the therapist to build rapport. Techniques presented will include using “ice breakers,” making a humor journal, using meaningful objects, and making effective gratitude lists. We will also examine when to appropriately use humor, and when not to (e.g., joking with TSA officials when going through airport screening). Attend this seminar, and you will laugh, learn, and discover “what one lizard said to the other lizard.”

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn stress relief exercises using humor
  2. Learn how to teach stress relief coping skills to clients
  3. Learn how to use effective gratitude lists and humor journaling
