Urgent: Let's get Medicare coverage now!
You asked, so here they are - sample letters for legislators.
For sample letters: Senate House
Contact your two Senators and your Representative and let them know LPCs need to be covered under Medicare. Medicare impacts many other payment sources, so we are talking about a lot more than Medicare. Our national legislators are count the emails, so let's flood them like we did with BCBSNC.
To identify your legislators and get their contact info, please click here and enter your address on the top map for your representative and on the second map listing for your senator (both are found at the same link). Click on the district number that pops up at your address, and that will bring up your legislators info, including his or her phone number in Raleigh and in your local district.
Please note - this is not a one time request for advocacy - we need to repeat this call-to-action request over and over.
LPCANC Colleagues - Please ask your families and friends also.
Counselors have been far too much apathetic or assumed someone else will advocate for them. We have all heard the Medicare complaint for decades. But it saddens me to write this but I guarantee you that despite these alerts, very few counselors will take the time to contact their elected Senators or House reps.
Bills need sponsors to move through the process. The more elected officials hear from their constituents, the more likely they are to sign on as a bill sponsor.
If there are not enough sponsors for a bill, it does not get heard in committee nor will it work its way through the committee process to be voted on the floor.
Counselors need to be louder, noisier and more persistent. We need to use constituent numbers as leverage - grad students, faculty, friends, and families to contact about these two Medicare Bills.
