To all Mental Health Counselors who work with the military, with veterans and with military families,

The state-wide Certificate in Clinical Military Counseling (CCMC) is granted by the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of North Carolina (LPCANC) to North Carolinian counselors. The CCMC holds a standard of best practices among peer-review professionals that work with military populations, is research-based, and is vital to providing competent and ethical services to active duty personnel, veterans, veterans with disabilities, and their families.

This certificate program is meant to prepare yourself for clinical work with a military population that includes active duty service personnel, veterans, veterans with disabilities, family members, and dependents. This valuable training program, developed by Dr. Mark Stebnicki PhD and presented to the LPCANC board in 2015, has provided awareness, knowledge, and skills to our membership.

The LPCANC will continue to support the CCMC, with two trainings being held in 2017. The first training is coming up at the end of April, on April 28 – 29, in Wilmington. This training will begin at 8am on Friday, April 28 and end at noon on Saturday, April 29, earning 9.0 contact hours. Please click here to read more and to register. Don’t delay because the class may fill up!

The training registration fee is $200 and is open to LPCANC members, since this is a LPCANC member benefit. Join first, then register. On May 19-20, the online exam will be open; successful completion of the exam earns another 3.0 contact hours and your Certificate in Clinical Military Counseling (CCMC).

The next (and final) training in 2017 will be held in Winston-Salem at the Annual Conference, being held on October 26 – 28. We do not know yet the schedule, but watch for more details coming in early June.

Another way that LPCANC will support the CCMC program is to introduce a public directory of those who have earned the certificate, specifically to help someone find a counselor who is trained in military issues and culture. We hope to launch this directory very soon.

We hope you will plan to join us in Wilmington on April 28-29 for this training! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
