First Friday Webinar

Presenter:

Shelwilbed O. Wray "Billy", NCC, CAS, LCAS, AADC, LPCS, LMHC

Abstract:

This webinar will focus on an exploration of family systems purpose, the impact of addictive disorders on family members, and a discussion on coping strategies.  Addiction and the treatment of the same has historically been focused on the addict/alcoholic as the primary target of treatment interventions.  While these approaches may have indeed helped the individual suffering from the disease of addiction, they often neglected to account for or address the often disastrous impact that living with an active addiction has on all those who love the afflicted person.  Even today, many well know residential treatment centers only address this in a cursory manner and in some cases, in omitting this crucial component of  recovery, will expect positive outcomes for long term recovery!  This discussion will challenge these patterns by illuminating the need to treat all who suffer and not just the "identified patient".

Learning Objectives:

Participants will demonstrate an understanding of: 1) Purpose of family systems 2) Traditional dysfunctional roles in addicted families, and 3) Significance of inclusion of whole-system approach to treatment

All First Friday Webinars are 1-hour long and receive 1 contact hour of continuing education credit. LPCANC is an NBCC-approved provider (ACEP) #5807.
