First Friday Webinar

Shirley B. Huffman, PhD, LPCS, NCC, ACS, CCMHC, BC-TMH

As our society becomes more mobile and comfortable communicating via electronics,  the traditional milieu of in-office, person-to-person counseling is being challenged to provide counseling via distance counseling or Telemental Health. The general population is becoming aware of this option and seeking it more regularly. The ACA code of Ethics states that counselors are to actively attempt to understand the evolving nature of distance counseling and pursue special training if they plan to engage in it. This one-hour webinar addresses a small portion of the requirements to be certified in Telemental Health and opens an opportunity to discuss interests and concerns.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify at least 5 different terms used for telemental health (TMH).
2. Establish TMH as Evidenced-Based Practice.
3. Identify at least 5 primary legal concerns to be addressed in TMH.
4. Describe at least 3 ethical issues relevant to practicing over state lines.
5. Identify which of the technologies used today meet HIPAA requirements.

All First Friday Webinars are 1-hour long and receive 1 contact hour of continuing education credit. LPCANC is an NBCC-approved provider (ACEP) #5807.
