Counseling as a Second Career: How did we get here?

Erin Kalbarczyk, M. Ed., LPC

Human beings can be restless creatures; there is evidence to suggest that adults may change careers every 5 - 7 years. The field of student development within higher education informs us regarding the Social Cognitive theoretical concepts that can guide people seeking changes, particularly meaningful changes, in their careers. We will also see that persistence plays a critical role as people navigate bumps in the road while endeavoring to create new roles for themselves. We will also explore the concept of Calling as a motivating factor for those of us who have pursued counseling as a second career. Finally, we will consider the questions we wish we had considered when we set out on our paths of career change.

All First Friday Webinars are 1-hour long and receive 1 contact hour of continuing education credit. LPCANC is an NBCC-approved provider (ACEP) #5807.
